Too Much Time

Having too much time on my hands and not enough to do leaves me too much time to think. Mary says when I have too much time to think I come up with too many projects for us to do. My projects often mean work for Mary.

It is the last day of April and the temperature was in the teens this morning. Seeing the temperature every morning has made me start thinking about how we are going to keep warm in the winter. Read More...

Shevlin Park

P4300001
Mary got home from work around 3:00 today. We decided to go check out Shevlin Park - one of the many city parks in Bend. Shevlin is a large park with hiking and biking trails, a lake and a creek. Trails connect it to other hiking and mountain biking trails around town. The linked article (click on the blue words above) tell about the park and has lots of photos. Read More...

Monday, Monday

Yesterday, Moxie and I stayed home again while Mary went to work. We are doing the same thing today. I am getting very tired of having to hang out in the RV Park. We have books that tell about wonderful places and things to do in and near Bend. I am ready to get out and explore. This morning I called and got a doctor’s appointment on Friday to see if I can be released to ride my bike, drive, kayak, etc. Read More...

Squeeky Clean

P4280012
Since we arrived in Boise the first week in April, Mary and I have talked about getting the RV washed. Most RV parks have someone who comes through during the summer that will wash RVs for exorbitant prices. Our plan was to just deal with the dirt until summer. Read More...

Yard Art????

Today was warm and sunny. it was warm enough that I even thought about putting on a short-sleeve shirt. Thinking about it was as far as I got. I did open the Fantastic Fan in the RV to get some fresh air. Even though it is warm during the day, it is still going to be cold tonight. Read More...

Sunny Bend

P4250001
Bend claims to have three hundred days of sunshine a year. I am hoping this is true, because Bend is certainly beautiful when the sun is shining. We have been in Bend for a week and a half. We have been filling our onboard fresh water tank and unhooking the RV park water each night because of freezing temperatures. Mary did not want to winterize our water hose until September and has steadfastly insisted that it is going to get warmer. Read More...

Trader Joe's

IMG_1277
If you have a Trader Joe’s near you and you do not shop there, you are missing out. We bought some frozen almond croissants from Trader Joe’s because we both love almond croissants. We put them out to rise for several hours and then cooked them. They were delicious. You will not find the name brands that you see on TV at Trader Joe’s, nor will you find a huge store. Trader Joe’s carries a wide variety of products and everything we have gotten from Trader Joe’s has been great. Read More...

Moving Day

IMG_1260
Our RV park has a dog park and an adjoining natural area where dogs can run off leash. Moxie particularly likes the natural area. The RV site we were initially assigned is about a block and a half from the dog park and natural area. This morning we noticed that a site closer to the dog park and natural area had come open. The site is farther away from the entrance of the RV park (which means less traffic). Mary went to the office to ask if we could move to the open site. Read More...

Home Alone

IMG_1254
Moxie and I were home alone for half the day today - Mary went to work. Moxie and I slept late and went for a long walk in the open space that adjoins the RV park. When we got home from our walk, it was warm enough for us to sit outside in the sun until it was time for Mary to come home.

A River Runs Through It

IMG_1232
We woke up to sunshine this morning. Mary has been wanting to try out her fishing pole so we decided to take Moxie and go fishing. Before heading to the Crooked River - a National Wild and Scenic River, we went to Shari’s to get something to eat and then went to the Fish and Wildlife Agency to get fishing licenses. One of the young men that worked there is married to a girl who grew up in Hendersonville, NC. Read More...

Mary's First Day at Bend REI

IMG_1218
Today was Mary’s first day of work at the Bend, REI. She said the store is really nice as all all the people (employees and customers). She had a very good day and learned that REI employees ski and snowboard free at Mt. Bachelor. Read More...

Snowy Day

Me in Snow
We woke up to snow today and it snowed until afternoon. The snow was really pretty on the Ponderosa Pines in the RV park. I am beginning to wonder if it is normally this cold mid-April in central Oregon. The high today was in the thirties and the nights have been in the twenties. It is suppose to stay like this for most of the week. The ten day forecast is predicting that it will warm up next week. Read More...

Snow???

IMG_1176
We woke up to a nasty weather report. A high today in the low thirties, wind and snow showers. The day has lived up to it’s potential. We drove up to Mt. Bachelor and to Moxie’s delight we discovered that they had a special area for dogs to play in the snow. Moxie ran around and had a great time. I think the dog play area might be a small lake in the summer, but for now it was solid ice covered with lots of snow. Read More...

Adapting to Our New Environment

IMG_1169
Yesterday morning Mary went to the Bend REI to meet the store managers and tour the store. She said the store is very nice (it is in an old factory building) and she really likes where it is located along the Deschutes River. There are other stores (Banana Republic, White House Black Market, Chicos, etc) and small restaurants in the same area along with a city park and a greenbelt. Read More...

Bend, Oregon

IMG_1157
My head injury has sure changed Mary’s way of life. Generally I get up a couple of hours before Mary in the morning. Moxie and I go for a long walk and get our day started. Mary drags out of bed a few hours later. Now Mary has to get up early enough to take Moxie for a walk because I am too unstable to go down the RV stairs with Moxie and I can bend over to clean up poop without getting dizzy and nauseous. Feeling Better

Today was my first full day home from the hospital. I am feeling better although I do not look any better. I am hoping that by the time all the purple, red, green and yellow colors are gone from my face I will have my brain back and be feeling 100% Read More...

Not to be Trusted

IMG_1147
Sunday morning Mary and I went for what was going to be a short bike ride on the Boise Greenbelt. I remember getting on my bike beside the RV.  This is the last thing I remember for a while. About two miles into the ride. Mary said I hit a slick wet spot and my rear bike tire slid out from under the frame of the bike and I went flying off the bike. Mary was behind me. Read More...

Fun in Boise

IMG_1143
After five days on the road it was nice to wake up this morning and sit on the couch and drink tea in my pajamas. it was also nice to take a shower in our own bathroom. When Mary got up, she jumped in the shower and was dressed for the day in less than an hour. I soon found out why; she wanted to go to Shari’s for breakfast. Read More...

Boise!!!

IMG_1136
Mary was up and ready to hit the road before eight o’clock today. Today’s drive was scenic. This morning we saw a lot of pronghorns grazing in the fields along the interstate. I think all three states we drove in today are beautiful - lots of colorful rock formations, mountains and hills. In Wyoming, Utah and Idaho we saw snow covered mountains and snow capped mountains. A Full Day

IMG_1072
We got in a full day of driving today - the first full day we have had on this trip (I consider 500 miles to be a full day). I hope Nebraska has sone beautiful area, because I would hate to think the whole state looks and smells like the part of the state that I-70 runs through. Read More...

Black Smoke - Not a Good Sign

IMG_1061
Here we are at the World of Fun Village. You can see the roller coasters in the background. Unfortunately the park was not open so I did not get to ride the roller coasters. Moxie and I walked around the park and there are a lot of roller coasters, a water park, and several other rides. Read More...

Kansas City World of Fun

IMG_1053
Today started out great. Moxie and I started the day with a walk and Mary was up and dressed by 7:30. We walked to Paneara Bread for breakfast before pulling out of the Walmart parking lot. This particular Walmart parking lot was quiet and we both got a good night’s sleep. Read More...
