Farewell Boise from Mary

About a year and a half ago we were deciding where our first full-time RVing stop would be. We looked at many cities and towns and decided on Boise, Idaho. It had all the biking, kayaking, hiking and snow sport opportunities we were hoping to find. RV parks were affordable and the weather was appropriate for living year round in an RV. Read More...

Goodbye Boise

Pasted Graphic 1
I thought about making a list of all the things I will miss in Boise and Idaho, but the list would be too long for a blog entry. There are big things: all the friends we have made; skiing at Bogus Basin; kayaking on the Payette River and Boise River; Read More...

McCall Winter Carnival

1hr526.St.36
Jaimie, Meghan & I went to the McCall Winter Carnival today. We drove about 150 miles north - watching the temp drop to negative one as we drove along the Payette River. When we arrived in McCall, we put toe warmers in our boots and hand warmers in our gloves before getting out of the car. McCall is a small town located on a large lake. The lake, parking lots and sidewalks were all covered in ice. There were paths through the snow on the lake and the usual carnival / street fair vendors had set up shop along the lake. Read More...

Chukar for Dinner

DSC04336
Like many people in Idaho, Brad, Mary’s supervisor, enjoys hunting. One of the animals Brad hunts is Chukar. A Chukar is a chubby game bird that prefers running to flying. Brad brought us some frozen Chukar. We have never eaten or cooked Chukar. Mary said she was going to cook the bird, but did nothing to make that happen except for bringing it home. Read More...

Bluebird Day at Bogus Basin

DSC04318
I took the dogs out this morning and saw stars. That is significant because it means that it could be a bluebird day at Bogus Basin. A bluebird skiing day is a day with fresh snow and a beautiful blue sky. Mary was not real excited about getting out of bed early to go skiing / snowboarding after yesterday’s horrible conditions, but I kept pushing and she finally got up. Read More...

Where are the Groomers

Groomers are ski slopes that have been machine groomed to be nice and smooth ergo - easy. Groomers are also the people who drive the machines that groom the slopes. We headed up to Bogus Basin despite the fact that it was raining in the valley and the clouds were so low that we couldn’t even see the mountains. When we got up to about 5,500 feet the rain changed to snow. Read More...

Wet Wednesday

My plan for today was to ski with the Vertigals this morning, get a massage this afternoon, and have the RV washed and waxed. I suppose two out of three is not bad.

Beautiful Bogus

DSC04307
Some days are just meant for skiing / snowboarding. Today was one of those days, the sky was a beautiful blue and the temperature was right around freezing. Mary even got out of bed in time to be on the mountain when the lifts opened. We picked up breakfast at McDonald’s drive thru and were on our way. Read More...

Rearranging Furniture

I moved furniture around pretty often in stick and brick houses. Moving furniture in the RV isn’t quite as much fun. All furniture in the bedroom and bathroom is nailed down. The only movable thing in the bedroom is the computer and there is nowhere else for it to go in the RV so, while technically it is movable it doesn’t really count as something I can move. The only change that can be made in the bedroom is changing the comforter and pillows on the bed. Bathroom changes are limited to changing towels & bathmats, and moving the soap & lotion to the other side of the sink.

Windy, Rainy Saturday

Pasted Graphic
Jaimie and I met for breakfast at Goldy’s Breakfast Bistro in downtown Boise at 8;00 this morning. Mary decided she had rather stay home in bed. Goldy’s is Boise’s best know breakfast restaurant. Something about it reminds of the the Sunnyside Cafe in West Asheville - I think it is the atmosphere. Read More...

Bogus Basin

DSC04290
This is a photo of the road to Bogus Basin. The dark thing in the bottom of the photo is the hood of the car. The photo was taken through the windshield. I headed to Bogus Basin armed with new ski boots, new goggles, new backpack, new apre ski boots, and skis that had to be refitted for my boots (the boots were too small for the bindings and messed up the geometry the skis - the techs at REI made everything work). Parties at Dean's & Cathy's

DSC04111
Last night we went to a party at Dean’s & Cathy’s. These parties are becoming a regular event. When we first went to Dean’s & Cathy’s party there were six of us present. The parties have continued to get larger and larger and last night there were at least thirty people. Its easy to understand why the parties have gotten larger and larger. Read More...

Martin Luther King, Jr

“Now, I say to you today my friends, even though we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow, I still have a dream. It is a dream deeply rooted in the American dream. I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: - ‘We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal.’” Read More...

Planning

I am so happy to be back in our own space and to have both the truck and car repaired. I have pretty much just hung out at home while Mary works. I am enjoying doing nothing for a while. Read More...

Light at the end of the Tunnel

This photo is the side of our RV that was badly damaged in the explosion. Nelson’s RV did a great job repairing it. We only had one minor issue after the RV was returned to us and Nelson’s sent a repairman to us to fix it. As of right now, it appears that our RV has been restored to it’s pre-explosion condition. Be it ever so Humble

I am so happy to be back in the RV. People always ask how we can live in such a small space and I am sure it is hard for some people to understand why we would choose to live in a 30’ x 8’ fiberglass trailer. Besides the obvious advantage of being able to take our home wherever there is an RV park, I have discovered that I really like the limited space. Read More...

Oh Happy Day

Both the RV and Honda Pilot repairs are finished! This morning Mary went to get the RV and I went to take the truck back to the body shop and pick up the Pilot. Mary went with the repair shop to return the RV to the campground while I talked with the auto body shop about the things that still needed to be done to the truck.

Sun Valley Resort

DSC04011
There is no snow at our local ski area. Mary had a new snowboard & bindings. I had new ski boots and freshly waxed skis. Basically were all dressed with no place to go. After determining that nothing was going to happen with the RV and the Honda for a couple of days, we decided to drive to Sun Valley (about three and a half hours east) to ski / snowboard. Michael Jackson

Pasted Graphic
This evening we went to see Michael Jackson the Immortal. The show was great. I wish we had better seats; ours were in the middle section, and we could see everything, but I feel like we missed a lot of detail because we were so high above the stage. Looking at the stage set up and the seating, I don’t think there were many great seats in the arena. Seats were either below the stage, far above the stage, or far away from the stage. A live band accompanied the performers and both the musicians and performers were amazing. The show was quite a tribute to Michael Jackson. Read More...

Hello 2012

DSC03987
Mary is starting out the new year working. She works both today and tomorrow (the designated holiday). Shadow, Moxie and I went out to Eagle Bike Park for a hike. Eagle Bike Park is being built for mountain bikers by mountain bikers. It has trails for all levels of mountain biking along with all kinds of fun jumps & stunt areas along with a mountain bike velodrome. If you enjoy mountain biking you might like to check out some of the Eagle Bike Park videos. Read More...
