Cozumel, Mexico

P1010629
Last year Shelley and Dave asked if we would be interested in accompanying them to Cozumel, Mexico to watch Keenan while they went scuba diving. Since they wanted to go in winter and we were going to be in North Carolina anyway, we decided to go. Shelley and Dave both told us that the place we were staying was not fancy, but was one of their favorite places to go. The plan was to fly out early on December 27. Read More...

Family, Birthdays, Projects & Back Surgery

P6210318
We left Flagstaff, Arizona on I-40 and stayed on I-40 all the way to North Carolina. The trip was uneventful (which is a good thing) and we made it home in four and a half days) After dropping off the RV at the storage lot, we spent a week or two at our house in Fairview, NC. Read More...

Park City, UT

P3020071
We spent the past two weeks on vacation. Our life is pretty much a full-time vacation, but this was a vacation from our regular vacation lifestyle. We left Bend, OR and drove to Boise, ID. We dropped off Moxie at The Dog Ranch for her vacation. Jennifer, the owner of The Dog Ranch is wonderful and Moxie really likes staying with her and the other dogs. That evening we had dinner with friends and the next morning we had breakfast with another friend. From Bend we drove to Park City, UT where we spent the next eleven days skiing and snowboarding. Always Wonderful World

IMG_1484
We are still loving Bend. Seems like there is always wonderful options for things to do and the weather is always beautiful. We have settled into life here. Mary generally works four days a week. I spend a lot of time volunteering. We both spend a lot of time playing. Bend continues to be overcrowded with tourist. Read More...

Weekend in Creedmoor

DSC09844
We spent a long weekend with Shelley, Dave, Keenan and the grand dogs. Keenan is a very active, very entertaining little girl. She has potty trained herself even though she will not be two years old until mid-August. She has also learned that “pee-pee” is a great way to control all the adults in her life. If “pee-pee” doesn’t get an instant response “poo-poo” will. Read More...

Fun with Taylor & Family

DSC09531
Taylor is so smart and so much fun. We relish every moment we get to spend with her (and her parents). We never get to spend as much time as we would like with her - we would take her home with us and keep her forever if we didn’t think Kyle and Katie would come after us.

Two Weeks

My list is getting shorter and the RV is looking great. Those are helmets hanging on the wall - great wall art - don’t you agree???? Mary plans to start on her list today - it is 10:00 and she is still in bed.

Keenan Live

DSC09274
Keenan is eighteen months old going on thirteen years old. I asked her last night if she wanted to stay home from “school” with Grammy today and she said, “ya.” This morning, Keenan watched Shelley and Dave get ready for work and told them goodbye with a voice tone that seemed to be making fun of them for having to go to work. Visiting Shelley - the Dentist

Mary left last week heading to Jacksonville, Florida to open new REI store. On Tuesday Shelley called to see if I could come to Creedmoor to take care of Keenan (day care had called because Keenan was throwing up). Within a matter of minutes, Shadow, Moxie & I were on our way. I keep clothes and such in Creedmoor and Shelley has dog food, etc. so very little packing was necessary.

Happy Birthday!!!

DSC07240
Mary and I went to Asheville this weekend. We took some of our things (such as Mary’s vehicle) to the house so they will be there when we return from our cross-country trip. We also made arrangements for RV storage in Asheville. This morning we drove back to Creedmoor. Read More...

24 Hours

Monday morning I got up as usual. At 7:15 I walked to the kitchen to talk with Shelley & Dave before they left for work. Dave and Keenan were eating breakfast at the bar. I did not see Shelley. Dave said Shelley was not feeling well and looked toward a couch in the living room. Read More...

Lazy Afternoon

DSC06971
This morning, Shelley, Keenan and I went to a huge kids’ consignment sale at the fairgrounds. We spent about $100.00 and got tons of like-new toys. Keenan had a great time looking at all the toys, waving & blowing kisses - perhaps she thought she was in a parade. It was crowded and the atmosphere was quite festive. Read More...

Where's Keenan & her Parents

We still have not heard from Shelley, Dave & Keenan. My thought is that the internet is down or that Shelley doesn’t know she has to take her iPad out of airplane mode to have an internet connection. Read More...

Happy 4th of July

We did not hear from Shelley, Dave & Keenan after they left Atlanta. Hopefully they arrived safely at the resort in Mexico. It’s not unusual to not hear from Shelley & Dave for a day or so when they are out of the country, but they have never had Keenan with them. Read More...

Taylor's Birthday Weekend Part #2

DSC06544
After leaving Mountain Play Lodge we went to get lunch and to take Mary’s car back to our house before heading to our next stop. The plan was that Keenan and Taylor would sleep in the car following lunch and we would take the scenic route to our house and then on to our next stop. Taylor did a good job of napping - Kennan not so much. Read More...

Taylor's Birthday Weekend Part #1

DSC06454
Taylor turns four on June 28th. She had a princess birthday party this Saturday. Disney has done a stellar job of making all girls age three to eight think that they are princesses. Shelley, Keenan and I headed to Asheville early Friday morning. We arrived at our house around noon. After getting all of the stuff that Keenan needs in order to travel taken inside and set up we went to Hendersonville to see Kyle, Katie & Taylor. Read More...

Hello Cousin

DSC05753
A few months ago I realized that my cousin, Pam, lived near the Amtrak route that runs through Raleigh/Durham. It didn’t take too much talking to convince Cheryl (my sister) that we needed to take Amtrak and visit Pam. Our trip happened this weekend.

To Poop or Not to Poop

A Day with Keenan

DSC04748

Weekend in the Mountains

Friday morning we headed to Asheville for the weekend. Our primary reason for going was to spend time with Kyle, Katie and Taylor. We stopped by our house where we would be staying and dropped off the dogs. It seemed odd walking into our house. It is our house, but we have it rented to a wonderful tenant and it felt like I was a guest in someone else’s house.

Settling In

DSC04674
We have been in Creedmoor three days and are pretty much settled in. Our car has been washed and rewashed in an attempt to get all the salt off of it. The dogs are starting to get along although we are still keeping them separated most of the time - four good size dogs and a baby are a lot to try to manage at the same time. Read More...

Grammy & Auntie Em

We arrived in Creedmoor around noon. Shelley, Dave, Keenan, Zoe and Jazzy were on hand to greet us. Jazzy, Shadow and Moxie have not met before. Heading East - Day Eight

We started the day with a ride up the tram to have waffles for breakfast. Mary, Shelley, Gustavo and Dave were going to snowboard / ski down from the top. I didn’t even put on my ski boots or take my skis up because I had no intention of skiing down the black (expert) run from the top. Read More...

Keenan's Surgery

Keenan Update

IMG_0111
The morning following Keenan’s CT scan, she woke up smiling. She slept much of the day, but seemed no worse for the experience. Shelley and Dave finally heard from the surgeon. The CCAM is larger than they had thought it would be and it has developed its own vascular system. While this sounds bad, it does not change the results. Read More...

The Very Long Very Bad Day

Being Grandma

IMG_9978
I had the pleasure of spending time with both of my grand babies at the same time this weekend. Shelley had a conference in Charlotte on Friday and Saturday. An added plus for Keenan and myself was getting to spend time with Cheryl in Charlotte while Shelley attended meetings. Read More...

Routines

IMG_2310
I am starting to feel more at home in Creedmoor. I am making plans for my self-declared days off (Fridays, Saturdays & Sundays). The weather is starting to cool off a bit although the air conditioning still runs all night. Life for Shelley and Dave seems to have changed more radically than life for me. They were used to having dinner out several nights a week and attending things most evenings and on the weekends. Now they are too tired to do either.

Keeping On Keeping On

I forgot to take my allergy meds yesterday and woke up with a headache this morning. Shelley & Keenan are sleeping in. Shelley has decided that going back to work after two weeks is probably not going to work. She has decided to wait until after Labor Day. Keenan continues to eat, pee and poop. She cries when she is hungry, fusses when she is uncomfortable, enjoys being outside, looks at people and things that capture her interest, stretches and rolls from side to side.

Good Times at Olsonland

DSC02665
Wow, this afternoon seemed almost like a normal day at Olsonland. Granted there were some changes, but somethings were back to normal. This morning I got Keenan around 6:00. Shelley and Dave stayed in bed. I fixed blueberry muffins for breakfast and Shelley and I ate them while she feed Keenan around 9:00. Shelley headed back to bed. Keenan and I hung out. Shelley and Dave finally got up around noon. Lunch was leftover pot roast. We are sure not suffering from a lack of food. The refrigerator is overflowing with stuff people have brought by. Reality Check

The fumes from the bucket were overwhelming yet we both stood there over and over and over again holding the bucket for Shelley. Read More...

Fight or Flight

IMG_0090
I got a call from Shelley (daughter) at 4:00 AM. She thought she was in labor. Based on what she told me, I thought the same. I got online and changed my airline ticket (thanks to Southwest Airlines for not charging fees to make changes). then emailed the flight info to Shelley. By 6:00 AM I was on a plane heading from Boise, ID to Raleigh, NC. Once in the air, I asked one of the cabin stewards if someone could check my ticket and see if there was another flight that would get me to Raleigh before my 5:05 scheduled landing. Someone would check for me when we landed in Denver. Read More...
